The Leriti map

The map from the reel, rebuilt for the website. As it scrolls into view it flies in from southern Africa, lands on the house and draws the road to Crocodile Bridge Gate. Then it is the visitor's to move, tilt and explore.

Everything on it runs in the browser from one file. The links on the cards open the matching pages on leriti.com.

Things to try

  • Places

Tap a name under the map, or a pin on it. Each place opens a card with its details and a link to the right page.

  • The drive

Open Crocodile Bridge Gate and choose Show the drive. The road from the house draws itself while the kilometres and minutes count up.

  • Move

Drag to move. Zoom with the + and − buttons, a double-click, or Ctrl and scroll (⌘ and scroll on a Mac). A plain scroll still scrolls the page, so the map never traps anyone.

  • Tilt, turn

Drag with the right button, or hold Shift and drag. The tilt button lays the map flat; the compass turns it back to north.

  • On a phone

One finger scrolls the page as usual. Two fingers move, pinch, turn and tilt the map. In full screen, one finger moves it.

  • Keyboard

Tab to the map, then the arrow keys move it, Shift and the arrows turn and tilt it, + and − zoom, and Esc closes a card.

  • Again

The replay button, under the tilt button, plays the flight in again.

On the map

Facts and wording from leriti.com, checked again on 17 October 2026. Two figures come from elsewhere: the 27 km is the road as drawn on the map, and the Kruger's area is the park's own (about 19,500 square kilometres).

On the website

The map is one script and one line of markup, so it can go into any page or section on the site.

<div data-leriti-map></div>
<script src="leriti-map.min.js" defer></script>
  • About 55 KB compressed, with the map data and the icons inside. It loads deferred and only starts when the map scrolls into view.
  • It carries no font of its own: it sets everything in the Roc Grotesk Regular the site already loads.
  • No cookies, no storage and no requests to other sites, so the cookie banner needs no category for it.
  • Visitors who prefer reduced motion get the finished map without the flight. Screen readers get a short description, and every place is a real button.
  • On slower devices it draws at a lower resolution while the map is moving, and sharp again when it stops.
